Recently,
I would like to nominate my sister for a car for Christmas. She has been through so much the last two years and really wants to get on her feet again. Two years ago, she suffered a heart attack and had a stint put in. At the time, she was waitressing at a restaurant and being off work set her far back. Also, while she was in the hospital, her car was stolen and she lost her transportation. When she recovered, she either walked or rode her bike to work in all kinds of weather. She was not making a lot of money and she had to stop her medication because of the high costs. Then last Nov., my older brother was diagnosed with brain cancer after being in remission from lung cancer for a year. After 6 months in various health care facilities, his insurance ran out and we moved him home to recover and continue his chemo treatments. In May, my sister Mary Jo quit her job and moved in with my brother to take care of him full time, living with him and caring for his needs 24 hours a day. The task was made more difficult since he was unable to walk or care for himself, and his losing the ability to use his arms in the later stages, but she did an angels job as best she could. Rarely was there a time where she could string much sleep together at once since his care needed so much attention. I could go on and on about everything else she needed to do by herself but the list is very long. Sadly, on Nov. 13th, my brother passed away and now she will have to move out very soon and she still doesn’t have any transportation. She desperately wants to get a full time job and gain independence again and be on her own. Without a car, that’ll be a very difficult endeavor. A car at this time would mean the world to her and remove a very big roadblock that is in her way. My sister sacrificed for my brother, reminding me many times what unconditional love looks like, and we would very much like to see her smile again this Christmas and see her wish fulfilled. I can only hope and pray that you all see it in your heart to consider her for a car this Christmas.
