Veteran falls on hard times
He has worked for Leavenworth County Public works for almost 27 years. Jack is a 61 year old Vietnam veteran and is in dier need for a wheelcair van. On December 21, 2010, Jack was admitted into KU Medical Center to repair a valve in his heart. Because Jack has a pace maker and a defibulator, and because of the surgery, he had to stop taking his blood thinners two weeks before his surgery. They went in between the ribs and the surgery went very well, but he developed blood clots. They gave him medication to desolve the clots, and he had a severe reaction to the meds. Before they moved him into a Rehabilation Hospital on February 15, 2011, they had to ampuate both legs to 6" below his knees, all the fingers and thumb on his left hand, the thumb on his right hand and 3/4 of his tounge. If that isn't bad enough he now has to go to dialisIs three times a week. On a good note, Jack was dismissed from the Rehab Hospital on March 31, 2011, and his spirits are up. He was forced into medical retirement in March, so now his family has no medical insurance, and no paychecks comming in. Right now they have a small car and it is not easy to get him in and out. I know the entire family and all of his friends, would be forever grateful. We will give him a van with a lift
