Dear Cars For Christmas Sponsors,

I would like to request your consideration for a patient that I have
worked with for more than five years at The University of Kansas
Hospital.  Mr. ********* is truly in need of a car for transportation to and
from medical appointments for his ailing elderly mother and himself.  Mr.
*********  became the full-time caregiver for his mother fifteen years
ago when she moved into his home.   At that time he was working
full-time, financially stable and had transportation.  About six years ago, Mr.
********** became ill.  His health declined to the point that he could
not longer work. He depleted his savings and applied for Social Security
Disability.  Both he and his mother live on a very limited income.  Mr.
*********’s car finally gave out and he has had to rely on family and
friends for transportation.  Sometimes, he and his mother miss their
appointments because no one is available to give them a ride.  It is very
hard for Mr. ********** to ask anyone for assistance.  He worked
for 20 years at the same job and has suffered many losses.  He
continues to care for his ailing mother full-time as he battles his own
health issues.

Again, Mr. *********** is in desperate need of a car to get him and his
mother to medical appointments, picking up medication and groceries, and
taking care of financial obligations.  On behalf of Mr. *********, his
mother and myself, I want to thank you for the opportunity to share
their story and ask for your consideration.

IM 36 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH FIBROMYAGIA.I HAVE 2 BOYS 16 AND 18. THE 18
YR OLD IS BI-POLOR. IM SEPARATED AND WE HAVE NO CAR TO GO TO DR. OR ANY
OTHER APPOINTMENTS. MY 18 YR OLD IS TRYING TO FIND WORK SINCE HE NEEDS
TO SAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO MOVE TO PHOENIX FOR COLLAGE IN SEPT OF 2004. I
WOULD ALSO LIKE TO GET A PART TIME JOB WITH THE LOCAL VETS SINCE IM
TYING TO BECOME A VET TECHNICIAN BUT WE A UNABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS WITH OUT
A CAR.COULD SOME ONE PLEASE FIND IN THEIR HEART TO GIVE US A HELPING
HAND?

Mr. **** is a single father of three children, ages 13, 12, and 10.  Due to finances and his night work hours, he is living with his parents and three of his siblings.  Mr. **** works as a custodian at ***** from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.  He works within walking distance of his home.  His van had 100,000 miles and the engine blew up and was not worth repairing.  It has been towed off the dealership lot because he could not afford to repair it. I believe he still has debt for that vehicle.

When he was a child, Mr.***** was injured in a motorcycle accident and suffered some brain injury and permanent impairment to one arm and leg.  He was a special education student .  His former special education teacher teaches at the school two of his children now attend.  The teacher contacted me, the school social worker, when Mr.****** confided to her about some of the difficulties he was facing.

I have met with Mr. ***** to try to assist him with finding some resources that would allow him to live on his own again.  He is a proud and decent man who is trying diligently to raise his children and not accept outside help.

His old injuries and overuse of his stronger limbs are causing him increasing pain. He feels he must work the night schedule due to the slower pace and fewer physical demands during that work shift.  He is finding the walk to work more difficult and the cold weather increases his difficulty and pain.

Transportation would allow Mr. **** other employment options and to explore possible vocational rehabilitation opportunities.  If he could work during the day, his children would not need supervision during the night and that would help him work towards living on his own.  Furthermore, as his children grow older there are more needs to transport them to school activities and appointments as well as attend their school meetings.

I can not think of a more deserving and decent person who has been trying for a long time to provide for himself and in spite of many obstacles and handicaps

Hey Tanna:

If memory serves me correctly, each Christmas season you guys promote a
local man who refurbishes cars and then gives them away at Christmas. How do
we get someone placed into consideration? For Christmas our Overland Park
office has adopted a family from Leavenworth. The mom is 25, has four young
children and the father has flown the coop. She is on the verge of being
homeless and while she has some use of a car, it is broken down at a shop in
Versailles, MO needing more than $400 in repairs. No car has caused her to
lose her job.

According to her case manager, she doesn't have money for toilet paper and
food let alone money to fix the car. While the State of Kansas can provide
some assistance in similar situations were told, the car is officially
registered to someone in Missouri and thus Kansas won't get involved. I
think her's is a compelling story and candidate to be helped by the car guy.

I'd appreciate your assistance in contacting this gentleman.

You, Max and Moffitt are great. Love your morning show!

Kansas City , Mo.

May god bless you for your efforts in helping Kansas City people in need.

One of my reasons is I cannot afford a good running car and the reason is I can't afford it because I don't have a job and the reason for that is, as you may be able to tell by my address above there are no busses that come to my housing complex so I am unable to get a position at a job because I cannot get there. I also have a 2 year old who needs to be in daycare so she can play with other children in order to gain experience with other children but since I have no car or job I am unable without a car and that's why I feel I deserve a car for Christmas, Thank You. CATRINA THORNSBERRY

My daughter's first born is a boy age 6 now. He has a bone disease
called Olliers. This is where his bones
curve and often break just from walking. He has had
surgery on his leg but continues to go to Nashville to his doctor. Next
she has a little girl whom so for is very healthy. Now we have another
little boy how has a very serious skin disease call EB. The full
name is Epidermolysis Bullosa. Uncurable. He is almost
3 months old and is still so tiny at 9lbs. They are going to have to go
to Louiseville and Lexington for
this babies treatments. Its about a 4 hour drive one way to each of
these places. The first born is on disability as will be the new baby and
they are having such a hard time with medicine and doctors, special
bottles. The father only works delivering pizza so that if he is needed at
home he can be there. They have no telephone and only one car
that is used for all of there needs and is not in to good of shape.
They need a reliable vehicle for there needs. I can do only a little for
them and I
worry they will break down and have no transportation
at all. If you could find some way to maybe help them
it would be such relief.

Thank You Very Much for Listening

My granddaughter is in the process of a divorce from a man that is lazy
controlling and worthless and abusive.  he has left her and their 2
kids with no car being evicted if she doesn't get bills caught up.  she is
a loving and caring person and would give her last breath to help out
someone else.  we are unable to help her get some form of transportation
to get her kids to school or to the doctor hopefully someone more
fortunate can help her she deserves it.
