Prairie Village

I am a single mom of a 14 yr. old daughter, working two jobs (60 hrs. a
week). I went through a bankruptcy last summer from debt I had from a
long time ago when I was ill and unemployed, I had tried to keep up with
those debts but I just couldn't. The lawyer included my car in the
bankruptcy and I have continued to pay the $405.00 dollar payment every
month without getting it reported to the credit agencies so hence I am not
rebuilding my credit. I work as a Family Educator for Head Start, I go
to the homes of 12 families every week, so I must have a car in order
to do my job. Having to work two jobs just to pay the bills, I am not
able to save anything, has really taken me away from time with my child.
I work seven days a week, I am grateful but I am 51 yrs. old and I
don't have the energy I once did. Not having to pay a car payment, I might
be able to work a lot less and be more available to my rapidly growing
daughter. If I am not selected please know I appreciate what you
are doing to help others. Thank you.

My Mom needs a car really bad she had a car and a job at the medical
clinic in Platte city but she had to leave her job because she could not
afford daycare for my brothers and she was afraid to leave my teenage
sister at home because they do not live in a good neighborhood. She is a
stay at home mom that wants to go back to school to become a nurse and
a car would help her do that she has found a way to get some assistance
to help her pay for school but now she does not have any
transportation. She is a good mom and would make a great nurse. please help her if
you can

I have a younger brother who has a left hand anomaly and lack of
growth hormone. He has to go o the doctor quite frequently. I also have
an 8 year old sister who has bi-polar, ADHD, and conduct disorder. She
sees a psychiatrist monthly. She goes to individual therapy once a
week, and group therapy three time a week. She also suffers from to many
hormones and is seen at Children's Mercy Medical Center. Kayla my sister is
also borderline diabetic. My sister has about 16 doctors appointment a
month. My step-father has diabetes,  and COPD. There only means of
transportation in the metro bus system which therefore means the children
miss a lot of school, because it take 2 hours by bus to get to their
doctors appointments. They live on a fixed income and can not afford to buy
a car.

Thank You for your time Ashley

Dear Cars 4 Christmas,
Thanks for helping so many people in a way that is unimaginable. Bless
you all for stepping up and helping up families thru their situations.
I am a single parent of 3 boys and a 7 month old girl. I am in need of
a BLESSING. I have 3 very active boys that are involved in sports,
church activities etc. but because we don't have a vehicle to get around
in, alot of their activities we had to drop. I have a very hard time
getting them to their Dr.s appointments on time...or at all because its
hard getting people to "pencil" us in on their schedules. Its
understandable being that they have families to provide for. We live in a area
where the metro doesn't come as often as Missouri Metro does. There is only
1 grocery store in the area, and that store doesn't provide quality
groceries. Several times we had to go weeks without milk and breakfast for
the kids because I had no way to get to the store. Twice I had to leave
my kids home by their selves while I walked to the store just to
get there to find out the stores are closed for renovation or
something else. I can't afford to call a cab to take me where we need to go
because like gas the cab fare is to expensive for me to pay. I have had
to go without eating so the kids could eat because we were running low
on food. I was waiting for someone to come to give me a ride to the
store(day 3).I need a BLESSING because I want to go back to work. Money is
scarce and hard to make stretch when you have to pay to get to where
you are trying to go. I will have to put 2 of my children in Daycare and
pick one up at Noon...without a vehicle, finding/obtaining a job is
next to impossible! Please find it in your heart to BLESS us with a
vehicle so that we can LIVE again.
Bless you & your desire to help others!

Ashley is a new, teen, single mom. She had her daughter in January and
turned 18 in January. She lives with her mom and doesn't have a job or
a car. Her mom works two jobs and is in Kansas City with her fiance,
who was diagnosed with Leukemia last year, when she's not at work. So Ash
has no car available to her. She's getting her GED- just took the test-
and with a child to raise, a car is desperately needed to give her the
freedom to get to and from Dr's visits, to and from classes and a job
when the time comes. She's a great kid and she needs a car to help her
continue to improve her and her daughter's lives.

Mike and Kandi **** are a wonderful couple who have had a run of bad
luck.  They are wonderful because at any given time, they have up to two
foster kids in their home, along with the two children they've adopted
from the foster care system.  Recently, the car that Mike drives to
work broke down.  He works 50 miles away from where they live, and with
the doctor's appointments and taking children to school and other
activities, it is almost impossible for them to share a vehicle.  Due to
various hardships, they cannot get credit.  I cannot think of a more
deserving couple to get one of these vehicles.  It doesn't have to be anything
fancy, right now they are borrowing my 98 Pontiac sunfire because it
gets good gas mileage. I have no problem with the situation, because I
know Mike has to have a way to get to work.   If I could afford to give
them my car I would, but I still owe money on it.  I truly hope you
consider this couple.  It would make life a whole lot easier for them
 .

My mom goes to school at Washburn University, she is trying to get her
Master's in Social Work.  She has to take the bus, no matter what the
weather and they only run every hour so she has to wait in the cold and
heat.  And it wastes a lot of time.

She also comes to Lawrence to help me with my daughter, because I
suffer from a bipolar disorder.  She has to come on the Greyhound Bus to do
this, then take a cab to my house.  She can't always come when I need
her, because the bus only runs twice a day.

My mother also works as a waitress sometimes 6 and 7 days a week.  She
goes to work at 5am and has to have some on pick her up, because it is
too dangerous to walk that time of morning.  Then she walks home after 8
or 9 hours of work, or has to wait for the bus to go to school.

She doesn't make very much money and is paying for part of her school.
It would make life so much better for her to have a dependable car.
She does not have one now.

Thank you for considering my mother.

I was given your organization from my vocational rehabilitation
counselor as a possible resource for a desperate need of wheelchair
transportation. I've read some of the stories and I noticed that they were
written by someone other than the recipient but would you please allow me to
tell my story. I am a single Quadriplegic woman paralyzed from chest
down due to a spinal cord injury. I was pushed and I fell and fractured my
spine. To say devastating would be an understatement. I mean it sucks
the life out of you to go from independent to totally dependent to even
sit up or feed myself. Spending six months in the hospital and after
that still being put in and out made my future look grim. But I've come
so far from the beginning. Due to the injury I live with a tremendous
pain that the doctors can't seem to relieve. I have an aide that comes to
take care of daily needs. The only way I move myself around is my
electric wheelchair (I can't move a fold up chair) which is why I'm ask
ing if at all possible would you PLEASE consider donating a van to me.
An agency will help with the modifications needed but I have to get the
van and that is not at all possible for me now. To have a van (big or
mini) would mean much more to me than I can even find words to say. It
would improve the overall quality of life for me. I would be able to go
to work (I want that badly) obtaining self sufficiency to make a better
life for me. I could do volunteer work, I could go to the voting polls to
vote, go to the grocery without my aide having to put 10 to 15 bags on
the bus. I would like to make my dr's appointment and not be stood up by
medical transportation services that sometimes dont show up.Having
transportation would allow me to do the things in life that so many take
for granted, church,a movie theater,I would love to go to the park on a
whim or out to dinner or a community event ever now and then. I dont want
to sound sad because I'm not.Would you please help me become a
  productive member of society.

My name is Eric.  I love my mother very much, and she has done
everything for me.  She has never had a reliable vehicle, and her
current car barely runs.  I am tired of seeing my mom struggle in life, and
I would like to see at least one thing done to make it easier for her.
She has issues with her back and ankles, that make it hard for her to
walk.  I think that for all of the work she has done, and all of the
support that she has given to her four children as a single mother, that
she deserves something for her efforts in life.

Overland Park, Ks

My name is Laquita , and I have been working for a placed named
******** ****** as housekeeper since August of 2004. This is where I
came to know a lady by the name of Dawn *****.  She works hard to
support her and her 3 children on a housekeepers salary.  She has vehicle
that breaks down of her all the time, and it always seems like it happens
when she needs it the most, to go the grocery store, or to come to
work.  She can't afford a car payment and insurance. I see her walking to
the bus stop after a hard days work, she doesn't complain she just does
whats she has to do.  I offer her rides to the bus stop when I see her,
sometimes she excepts, but I always feel bad about leaving her at the
bus stop, I wanted to do something more.  So I remember hearing about
you all last Christmas, and how you donate cars throughout the year not
just at Christmas time.  I that she would really appreciate this
generous gift if she could get a vehicle to get back and forth to work,
and the grocery store etc.  Please consider Dawn as a recipient. Thank
you and God continue to bless this organization and great and wonderful
things you do to help the less fortune.
