I was relocated to Salt Lake City after Hurricane Katrina
and was
unable to return to the city in the time allowed to salvage anything
left by
the storm. Not everyone received the assistance need to reestablish
themselves, unlucky me to be included in that number. I found a job
that
will give me the income needed to thrive in this new city but the
public transportation is sorely lacking at night and on the weekends
which
the job requires me to work. Having no other source of transportation
I
pay for taxi service to and from work; it is a huge chuck($400 per
month) along with other bills and poor credit has made it extremely
difficult to obtain personal transportation. I pray that someone can
help me.
Redmond
Tiffany is 19 and fiancé Shawn, 17, they gave birth to their first child together which has downs syndrome with a severe valve heart defect. They live 80 miles from children's hospital in Salt Lake City, where baby Shawna Lynn needs treatment and appointments with her cardiologist. They live in a rural area, Redmond, UT. The local MD can not treat Shawna with her problems. They have no reliable transportation and have not been able to keep employment with Shawna's illnesses. Therefore they either miss appointments or rely on others to get them to and from....no transportation also keeps them from working. Shawna Lynn was born April 12 and stayed in the hospital until May 20th and then in three weeks was rehospitalized for congestive heart failure and was transported by ambulance...We hope you can help and feel free to contact us about her situation. Thank you

At the
age of 29 my sister, Cathy, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her
daughters at the time were 18 months and 4.5 years old. Her first chemo
was on the day our mother died from ovarian cancer. That was in 1992.
In April of 2003, my sister's husband was laid off. Then in May of
2003, my sister was laid off. Two weeks later, the landlord of the house
they were living in, phoned to say he needed to sell the house and they
had to move.
My sister moved here to Utah the end of July 2003 to live in my duplex
next door to me. Her husband stayed behind with the car. They are now
separated.
In November of 2003, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. In December,
she had her left lung removed and was in the hospital for several weeks,
coming home on Christmas day.
Cathy has been out of work since October of 2003 and having no income,
has not been able to afford to purchase a car. I loan her mine when I
can, however, she needs her own vehicle as I can no longer go without
mine.
She is not able to work yet and once she is, she will need a car of her
own in order to get to and from work.
After learning about this web site, I am hopeful that you are able to
help her achieve this goal of getting a car of her own. She finishes
chemo at the end of this month and what a great way for her to celebrate.
Thank you for your time,
Jill
