Eugene

Hi my name is Carolyn, I am single mother of two and I'm a
full time student. My family and I have a hard time living month to month
on just finacial aide and the little child support I get. We had a car
but unfortunately it died on us and now we can no longer drive it, nor
have the money to fix it. We've been struggling for about the last 3
years but we are trying to make it. I know that having a safe working car
would mean better chances of me finishing school and be able to take
care of my children.

Independence

I have two kids and a step daughter living with me. I work but am out
of work right now because of a back injury. I need to get to physical
therapy, kids to daycare and school, appointments, etc. and we live in a
rural community, seventeen miles from the main city and regular bus
routes. The buses here are every few hours, not every half hour like in
the main cities and don't go everywhere we need to go. My fiance supports
all of us right now on less than 18K a year and his motor just broke on
his truck. Currently he has been carpooling to work. I have been
searching for a better paying job myself since I also make minimum wage and I
want a job that doesn't require me to lift. I need to go to interviews
in the Salem area and it is nearly impossible to take the two smaller
kids to daycare to seek work (while my step daughter is in school) so
that I may earn the money to buy a car. I was homeless five years ago and
it all started with not having transportation to get to work. T
his is before I met my fiance and life was better since then. Now,
after having my car repossesed, I am panicking because I don't want to
ever be homeless again. I see the situation as very bad because although,
I had a job, it was low pay and they weren't giving me full time as
promised. Then, I hurt my back and can't work for about a month, that puts
us financially in a bad situation also because my fiance's income is
just $1,400-1,600 a month and just not enough for us to survive. I need
to get back to work and full time. The stress of not having
transportation, makes the situation more stressfull and I get depressed more then
and that leads to hopeless feelings of not being able to survive. I
don't want to fall into depression. I even thought of going to my doctor
for some depression medication today but then realized, "Oh, my car is
gone now and I can't get to Salem with three kids." To make matters
worse, our first snow came in two days ago. So, this is my story and as
you can see, a car would change my life and the lives of my family

I am 51 years old and can use a car to help my 80 year old mother get
to and from doctor appointments and the grocery store.

I am disabled and on SSI and SSD so I cannot afford  to buy a car
myself.

My mother has COPD and Congestive Heart Failure and does not travel
well on public transit as the time to wait for the bus to go to or come
home from appointments is far too long and the distance to walk is too
far for her.

We live in the same building on the same floor.

She frequently cannot make appointments on Monday, the only day my
fiancée can take her.

I know it might sound callus to ask for a car for myself, but really it
is to assist her in day to day appointments and such.

I would be ever so grateful to be accepted to receive a car as my
mother would be as well.

i am student at George Fox University. I am from Liberia West Africa.
I am currently in need for a car to help me get to school. I was given
a car by a loving family almost 3 years ago. I only have a work study
job to help pay my rent, and the car I have right now is giving me a
serious problem. To fix it costs more than what it was purchased for.
It can't no longer pass DEQ so the plates cannot be renewed. I cannot
do anything without it. If i have a car that can help me get to school
and around it will be very grateful and it will make a lot of
difference in my life.

Blessings,

Creswell

Sherrie is a female, who in my opinion, deserves the
best you can find. She just turned 50yrs.old and
can't stop helping folks. She has taken over my home care.I'm disabled,
so when i got my settlement, I
bought a 88 olds cutlass from st,vincent depaul's
she not only handles my ailments, but help's her own 5 kids, & 7
grandchildren. well the cutlass is on its last legs, and we can't afford to fix
her anymore .So to get another car would insure access
to hospitals, dr's office's physical therapy,
If you can help with this one, I guarantee she would help 20 or more.As
she normally does around here

Thanx so much she really needs this help.....

I need a vehicle because I live on Social Security pension and it does
not provide me with enough income to purchase a car. Even on credit, I
cannot get a car because my income is only $632 per month.
I live in a rural area on a dead-end street and cannot get to store to
go shopping, to the doctor and the dentist without a dependable,
economical car.
It can be a small car for only 2 people; I don't carry passengers.
Please provide me with a car so that I can get out; I would volunteer my
time to an agency in the community if I had a car to get there.
There is NO public transportation in this area and I am limited in
mobility so I cannot walk long distances. I am 69 years old and live
alone.

Milwaukie,

My name is Laurie. I have been attempting to get my SSDI since 2001.
Currently my case was remanded back down from Federal Court and back to
the judge who denied me, in other words, his denial was thrown out and
he has to hear my case again. I could be waiting another 6-8+ months
just for him to hear my case and then he can take as long as he wants to
make a decision.
I am a single (divorced him because he committed bigomy) mom, been
raising my son alone now for over 10 yrs. I have not received one dime of
child support.
I broke my back in 1992 and since then, every time I've gone to the
doctors, they have given me more and more diagnoses'.  ON the the flip
side, i can't get adequate health care due to the fact I am on medicaid.
When I finally do get approved for SSDI my healthcare will improve.  I
have an old compression fracture in my spine which causes problems and
also DDD, Osteoarthritis, Sciatica, Scoliosis, chronic pain 24/7,
chronic fatigue, migraines, asthma, anemia, recently diagnosed with
fibromyalgia, PTSD, depression, anxiety and other things in addition to all of
this.
Back when I was still able to work, I could not get the welfare dept to
help me fix my old 1988 Ford Escort station wagon (which I finally got
rid of, a lost cause). So, I started taking the bus to work and after
several years of that it make me so exhausted and tired I finally had to
choose between admitting myself into the hospital and quitting work.
Life is hard with no transportation and chronic pain/exhaustion issues.
I have to walk at least a mile round trip to get real food and this
takes my son and I a minimum of 3 1/2 hours for one trip. It is too
difficult to take on the bus and I was told taking the bus adds to my spine
breaking down. I get tired of my feet getting stomped on or ran over on
the bus or getting my bad leg slammed by inconsiderate people and this
makes my leg swell up due to my sciatica.
A car/van/truck would help us out tremendously as getting around is
next to impossible and I spend most of my time alone except for with my
son. I volunteer at my son's school and with my church, but besides that
we do not much of anything except take each day at a time. It can take
me days or weeks to get things done most people can do in a day or two.
Doing laundry takes me 3 or 4 days to recover from. I am unqualified
for any in home help due to the budget cuts, lack of adequate health
care, etc.  Basically, they could care about people like me. I worked for
over 32 years and spent time in the military, too. There is no support
services for someone in my situation, and anything I have managed to get
has not been without fighting for it extensively.  Basically the SSA
owes me at least $30,000 in back pay and I won't see a dime of it until
they get good and ready to give it to me. Many people die while
attempting to get their SS benefits when they do need them.
A car or mini van or even an old beater truck (my favorite) would be a
much needed and appreciated blessing to me and my son as life is quite
difficult for us on the good days. To be quite honest, the good days
are pretty much nonexistent lately.

Winston,

Dear who this may concern...
I am very relieved to see someone actually helping in a very sincere
way. Thankl you very much for having eyes open to those who are a bit
down on their luck..it gives hope to us all even to those who may not
receive.
I am the step-dad to two beautiful little girls ..Troy and
Brianna. Ages 9& 10 yrs. old. Their mother and I are trying are very best.
were in a small town of Winston Oregon. Bills are overwhelming money is
almost scarce, and much is very stressful. were saving every penny to
get into our own apartment--but is difficult because of past debt.
I am 30 myrs. old and tryin everything i can to make a better life
for us all. ive had several job opportunities but none come through I
have no  vehicle to get to and from work. our town has little bus service
so trhat makes it more stressful. i have a valid license and no tickets
and a unmarked driving record, but again no vehicle.
If  you may help it would mean so much.  I cant even take my
gir4ls to a park or to the doctors for their medicine ( they have an
attention disorder that requires riddilin) with out having to track down a
ride or having someone else take time off work to take us in town to
get their prescription. i would be so greatful for a response.
               Thank you.
                sincerely...

Portland, Or

I don't want this to seem cheesy that I am submitting a story for my
self and my family, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

About 3 months ago our lives were great. I had a good job, a working
automobile and a roof over our heads.  Then I got laid off, due to the
Oregon economy. I tried working odd jobs to make ends meet, but to no
avail. Our land lord worked with us as much as he could but we eventually
had to move. While still living at the apartment during this time of
unemployment, our van broke down. Unable to pay for the repairs, we were
left without a car. Now we were faced with homelessness and we didn't
even have a car to live in.

Well, we were blessed recently by finding a temporary place to live
while we get back on our feet. I am now employed again, but unfortunately
it is on the other side of town and buses run only intermittently to
that area, naturally outside my time I need to be there in the morning.

I also have 3 small children, 2 of which are in school but have missed
since we have no way to get them there, not to mention having to walk
to the store with them and my wife. And to top it off, fall temperatures
have plummeted from 70 degrees to a chilling average of 35 degrees.

Please, if there is anything that can be done, any help would be
appreciated.

Thankyou

Stephan ######### and Family.
