Belton
Sterling is disabled and also a veteran. He has been
through so much.
He has several medical problems which include; kidney transplant, heart
failure, acid reflux, liver disease, diabetes, high blood pressure,
congestive heart failure to name a few. He takes approximately 33 pills 3
to 4 times a day. He is not able to work and has to find ways to get
to his doctors appointments, he has a car but because he is on
disability and the cost to repair the car is more than he can pay for. He
barely has enough to pay his rent. The vehicle could change his life
because he would not have to worry about getting to the store to his
appointments which sometimes is 3 or 4 times a month with his medical problems.

This is one great couple. They are newly weds with a new 8
weeks old
baby. He works fulltime as a window cleaner. She is getting school
at home while caring for a new baby. Katie was very sick during
pregnancy that kept her from getting a job, so now that she has a little one
she is babysitting for a little boy with Hemophilia ( a bleeding
disorder) so she can help with family expenses. They are making enough to
get by but do not have the funds to make a vehicle purchase. With a
little one at home and caring for a child with a bleeding disorder a
vehicle for emergencies would be very helpful. Aaron's parents are both
very
ill and Katie's parents live 100 miles away. What a wonderful holiday
this would be for them go get a car for Christmas! Thank you very much
for allowing me to send this application. If you need any further
information please let me know-- Again Thanks and God bless

I don't know if I'm supposed to be submitting this if it
is for myself,
but this is all I could think of to do for a car. I've run out of
options and I'm desperate. I'm 18 and have two babies, 8 months and 2 years
old. Those children are all I think of and I do nothing but work to
take care of them. My little ford escort recently gave out on me and now I
have no way to get to a grocery store or to work to make money to take
care of them or buy them diapers or food. I can't even get them to
their doctor's appointments. I'm really in need of a car so that I can keep
my job and keep up on bills and get my children around to where they
need to go. Unlike others, I don't have any family, except for my mother
who is struggling herself.. and she already does all she can to help me
out. I have no one else to turn to. So if anyone would be help out I
would be thankful forever. Thank you,
Grandview
Michelle really needs a vehicle because she has no
transportation, and
does not make enough money to buy a car. She is on disability income, so
she is on a fixed budget. She is a single mother that has shared
custody of her sons. She needs to get him to and from soccer practice and
soccer games, pick him up from school, and other extracurricular
activities. She needs to get groceries, medication, and get to numerous medical
appointments. She has to depend on others for her transportation needs.
She is not in an area where the bus runs. She has been depending on her
mother for rides, but her mother has seizures and has a difficult time
driving. Her mother doesn't always feel well enough to take her places.
Having a vehicle could change Michelle's life by making her more
independent. She will no longer have to depend on others for all
transportation needs. Michelle and her son will be able to get out into the
community when they want, and not be isolated at home. It would mean t
he world to her and her family for her to have a car.

I am currently writing for myself. I am
a 51 year disabled woman who due to illness and my lack of knowledge of
the tax system had to file for bankruptcy. I am currently on
disability which is $706.00 a month. If I had a car I could get a job and
have
enough money to pay for an apartment and attend night school with the
help of vocational rehabilitation. I have a burning desire to be a
useful member of society and due to my bankruptcy I could not pay the high
interest rates that are needed to purchase an automobile with my
bankruptcy on my credit report
and pay rent if you know what I mean. I hope to get a nursing degree
at Penn Valley and with a car I would have more accessibility to
obtaining work and more flexibility in where I work and more options. I
would
greatly appreciate your help as I am in the process of repairing my
credit. I did not have any credit card debt on my bankruptcy just past
due taxes that due to my ignorance of the tax code while an independent
contractor doing home health care work I was not able to pay after I
filed due to loss of my job and illness. I have multiple chemical
sensitivities and have a hard time dealing with others perfumes and
aftershaves etc. With a car I would be stronger and not sick as much as I
would
be able to control my environment better in my own car. I would hope
it was a smoke free car as I do have allergies to second hand smoke. I
cannot live in public housing due to their spraying of pesticides
often. I need to have more of a controlled environment and it would no
t be a bad idea to have and air filter in the car to cut down on the
fumes. I have had some dark nights of the soul trying to figure out how
to be more self sufficient with my disabilities, but your organization
has given me some hope. I would hope that if you find my story
compelling enough to consider me for an automobile that it be an automatic as
I have a hard time shifting.
Thank You kindly for reading my letter.
Hope is a good thing.

HI MY NAME IS JOANNA. I AM A DIVORCED MOTHER OF FOUR
CHILDREN. I
RECENTLY BECAME DISABLED. AND FOR AWHILE HAD MEAGER INCOME. I WAS JUST ABLE TO
GET INTO A NICE HOME BY SECTION 8 PROGRAM. BUT I HAVE MANY, MANY DOCTOR
APPOINTMENTS FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN AND IT HAS BEEN VERY DIFFICULT TO
GET RIDES TO WHERE I NEED TO GO. JUST GOING TO THE STORE IS A VERY BIG
EVENT.I HAVE TO WALK 3 MILES A DAY JUST TO PICK UP AND DROP OFF MY KIDS
TO SCHOOL. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND WEARING ME DOWN. MY INCOME DOES
NOT ALLOW ME TO SAVE MONEY. WHAT I GET IN A MONTH IS JUST ENOUGH TO
SURVIVE THROUGH THE MONTH. IF THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE TO HELP IN MY
SITUATION I WOULD TRULY BE BLESSED.

my story is that I have a 10 year old son with cerebral palsy. I need a van to transport him to dr's appointments, school, therapy, and to keep him from being homebound right now I have borrowed my mom's car but I am not able to transport my sons wheelchair in it. it could change our lives because I would be able to do the things that my son needs. and he would not have to be cooped up in the house. he is a very outgoing child and it isn't good for him to not get out. i have bruised his legs and hip getting him in out of my moms car. he is getting to big for me to have to fold in half to get him in there. plus i am sure my mom would like to have her car back.

Our Vehicle was totaled on Feb. 28th 2006. neither one of
us were
working at the time I couldn't find daycare and there was no work to do
where my husband worked. So the money we received for the car we had to put
towards bills and everyday living. Right now we are borrowing a car
until we can get our own. and the woman is growing aggravated with us. we
did buy a car only to find out there is so much wrong with it and we
have no money to fix it. My husband is working now and I stay home with
the kids. its hard enough to try to live off of one persons income. let
alone try to pay a car payment. we have tried to get a vehicle . but we
have no credit. my husband needs a truck to work in to put us in the
financial welfare that we need to have.

Terressa husband left her about 9 months ago. He is an
alcoholic. He
hadn't paid any of the bills before he left. She was left homeless and
without a vehicle. She had to sell everything they owned to pay off some
of the bills. During the 9 months she has had to stay at different
peoples houses and she has absolutely no income. She is currently staying
with me. I live way out in the country and she needs to work. She also
wants to start college in January. She has had a broken ankle so she can
only walk a few blocks. She also has other health problems that keep
her from walking to much and being on her feet. A vehicle would make it
possible for to find a job, start college and get her own place.
Please consider her for a car.
Richmond
Mark and Sheila have 7 children. 3 have grown up. Mark has health problems and he works at home. Sheila works at night and has real bad back problems. The cars they have now are all junk. Sometimes they run, sometimes they don't. They still have 4 children at home and trouble transporting them all to church and other things. Marks business has him driving all over Kansas City area, and sometimes he can't do it. A car would really make a difference in there lives, because they could do family things together and Mark would make more money by getting around more. Mark and Sheila work hard at helping everyone else and I think its time they got helped. Thank you.

LaVaughn , has suffered from depression for years, she is
on
disability and barely gets by. She has a vehicle that she can not afford to get
fixed and is really wanting to try and get a part time job and try and
get her life back on track. If she could get a dependable car she would
have a way to get out and go to church and do for herself with out
depending on other people to get around. I truely believe that having a
dependable vehicle would give her the chance to get better. Even if you
knew someone that would help fix the car she has, that would be great.
Thank You

Blue Springs,
My sister-in-law. She has 6 kids ages 16-4. She is a
victim
of spousal abuse. She has been struggling for so many years to try and
get ahead. Her ex-husband does not keep a job long enough to pay her
child support. He does that so she is convince that she needs him in her
life in order to survive. When she does that the abuse will start again
and she will feel helpless. She finally was trying to get out of the
relationship and got a vehicle and a job so she could support her family
but her husband put it in his name in order to control her. She finally
had enough of the abuse and got another restraining order against him
and he took her vehicle away so she lost her job. I feel like she is a
strong woman and if given the chance if you are nice enough to give her a
vehicle it would give her the confidence again that she doesn't
need a man in her life. She will be able to get a job and support her 6
kids and finally be able to stand on 2 feet again. We are there for her
to support her emotionally and try to help out financially but she wants
to be able to do it on her own and the only way she can do that is to
be able to go to work and the only way she will be able to go to work if
she has a car. So please if you could you can sit down with her and
meet her and her family and see that she is in desperate need. Any more
questions you can call me at work and I will be glad to assist you in any
way I can even submit her family photo.

My daughter, Stephanie, is in need of a vehicle. She is 25
and a single
mom. Her daughter is 3 years old. Her ex boyfriend kicked her out and
she had no place to go so she came to live with us. She needs a car so
she can find a job and also so she has transportation to and from her
job. She has been relying on friends to take her places and sometimes
they can't. I would like to see her get a vehicle not only so she don't
have to rely on anyone for transportation but also because it would be
the first step to her getting back on her feet. She has been threw a lot
in the last 5 months and I want things to get better for her. It would
mean a lot to her. Thank you

I am writing this letter to request your assistance to
provide
transportation for my family. I am a single parent of two amazing
children.
My 14 year old daughter is in her last stages of home schooling. She
and I have worked hard to take her from reading on a second grade level
to reading on a seventh grade level. In addition to this, she went from
working on a first grade level in math to working on an eighth grade
level in this subject. She has a learning disability and was not
emotionally supported to speak up when she didn't understand assignments in
class. I saw her slip from an outgoing, personable girl to a shell.
She
was depressed and had no friends. Now she is excited about learning!
She reads for fun and studies very hard everyday. She has goals to
attend college and start her own business. The biggest thing standing in
her way is transportation to places that can offer free tutoring and
the library. I would love to have her in extra curricular activities,
but again, transportation is keeping us from making that happen. Since
we moved to Kirkwood in February, she has had no chance to meet to
her teens in the area. This will possibly hinder her when she starts
school because everyone will know each other and she won't know anyone.
Then there is my son. He is only 4 years old and was diagnosed with
mild to moderate autism. He has emerging language skills and is very
intelligent. He attends Kirkwood Early Childhood Center. Since he
has
been there, I have been challenged in that I cannot get to the school to
participate in his classroom activities and offer support to the people
who work with him. I know that my lack of attendance is likely one of
the reasons that he is not progressing as he did when he attended
school in the city of St. Louis. There, I was able to get a ride to the
school with neighbors and friends. Here, I am not close to anyone I know
and this makes it very hard to be active with my son. I know that I
work with him at home, but supporting the school environment it critical
to children like my son. It gives the appearance that I don't care
about what is going on. That could not be further from the truth. I
realize that me not having a car also keeps my son out of activities
in the community for children like him. I even worry when he is at
school because if he were to get sick, I have to call a friend to come
all the way out here to come get me to go to his school to pick him up.
Most of my friends live in the city of St. Louis and this is a 30
minute trip. That is if they are not already at work.
Finally, a bit about me. I became disabled with Bipolar disorder in
2000, after my first son was born still. The pregnancy was very
difficult and ultimately took its toll on my family as a whole.
While I have
since been blessed with my 4 year old, I still have emotional issues
surrounding my little angel. I am currently under the care of a
psychiatrist, who is located in the city. I see him monthly and have
missed a
number of appointments because I have no transportation of my own and
have to rely on others to take me. In addition, I have migraines and
asthma. This causes me to need to go to the emergency room a lot. I
am
a patient at St. Mary's Hospital's Outpatient Clinic in Richmond
Heights and getting there is nearly impossible. I am supposed to get
monthly
B-12 shots because I had gastric bypass surgery in August of 2005. I
seldom do that because I cannot make the trip. I also have a lot of
trouble getting to the pharmacy and the grocery store.
Having a car is something people take for granted. Not having a car
would a challenge that others could overcome on their own. I cannot
because I cannot afford to purchase one and if I could, I would not be able
to afford one that didn't need a ton of work. I have no saving and
live solely on my income from disability and child support.
Thank you for considering my letter, please call me if I can provide
any information that will aid you in your determination. Bless you.
Florissant,
We are in need of a car because it would give us the opportunity to have so much more independence and freedom to help ourselves with everyday needs that so many people take for granted. We find ourselves in a struggle day to day and month to month just to keep the household needs going and to get to store or any where for that matter is a constant battle. And it seems so often that we are just passed by in life. We would be very grateful. Thank you for listening and letting us share our story ! Crystal & family

Hi. My name is Sonya. I had a van that was costing a lot of money to keep running. I was quoted $1500 just to do some work to the engine, not to mention the emissions work that needed to be done. I loved my van and drove it until the plates expired and would have cost a small fortune to bring up to standard to pass both inspections. Not having a vehicle is a serious strain on my families life. I am not the only on depending on a ride. My oldest daughter of five just moved out, but doesn't have a car so I would frequently have to take her to and from work while I watched her son. I then would take my youngest daughter to school and my mom to work. I have a daughter that is a junior in high school and student teaches in the afternoon, I transport her to and from the second school. I pick mom up from work. In the evening I take my sister to work and pick her up when she's off. In-between all of this I run errands, search for a job, and attend church. I really want and need to wor k. Unfortunately, since I don't have a vehicle I have had to turn down two recent jobs. I have another job prospect, but without a car I have no way of getting to the job. My mother sister and daughters have all had to walk to their destinations. My oldest daughter also lost her job. My family desperately needs a vehicle, I am not the only on depending on this. I hope you are able to help my family. Thanks and God bless you.

Billie is our co-worker and a good friend. Recently
she has had
nothing but bad luck. Her husband was let go from his job a few weeks ago,
because his boss found someone who would work for cheaper wages. This
week, her dryer quit working and the transmission in her car went out.
This morning I went into her office and she told me the news about her
car. She started crying...and told me she did'nt know how she was going to
get another car, let alone pay all their utilities, and get groceries
that will last till her next paycheck. Her husband got a job today with
my husband, but will not get paid for another 3 weeks. Billie deserves
a free car...she needs a break. The stress from all this has taken it's
toll on her. She's not been herself. I would love for us to be able to
tell Billie that her bad luck has come to an end...and give her a car.
Thank you!

Andrew was paralyzed in a auto accident at only sixteen
years of age,
He needs a car or van with hand controls in it so he can move on with
his life, and unfortunatly me and his father can not afford this for him,
if he got a car he could go to school again and have a somewhat good
social life again, Thankyou, Laura

My lifelong friend is currently in college and it is very hard for her to get back and forth to school. She is go to school to become a registered nurse and during her first month of schooling her car gave out on her. She had to quit work because were she lives the metro dosen't run normal hours and only goes to certain parts of the area. She also has two children that are 1& 2 years old and has another baby on the way. Her children have missed doctor appointments because of transportation not available. Sometimes she has to miss school because she has no transportation to the babysitters or to school. She is a very hard working person and really deserves this. If she could get a car it will allow her to go to school and help better her and her childrens lifes. My friend is the type of person who never gives up and is always giving to others even when she has nothing to give. She dose not ask for much if she was to get a car I know she will use it well.

I am a stay at home mom . I take care of 4 girls and my
husband who is
ill. He has a lot of medical problems and is disabled. He needs to be
seen every month by a doctor for all of his medical problems , such as
congestive heart failure , blood clots in his legs, mental doctor,
family doctor, heart doctor , internal doctor. My girls and my husband count
on me to get them to the doctors , school , dentist . Were on a limited
income of 603 from ssi and my 388 from the state. I have been walking
for the last several months to go food shopping , to pay bills , and
what ever else that needs to be taken care of. Please help me if you can.
I would greatly appreciate it. I have some vehicles that need a lot of
work done that I would gladly exchange for a running one if that is
possible. I am looking for a mini-van for my family. God Bless and thanks
for considering. Patti

Dawn is a low income parent and started in January back to college to try to complete a degree. She has a van but it has many problems and she has no way to fix the vehicle up. It would probably cost more than the van is worth to fix it and with gas the way it is, a smaller vehicle would be more economical. A better vehicle would help her in her attempt to change her life and get off of government programs and become self sufficient.

LEES SUMMIT,
I'm a customer at A GAS STATION in Lee's Summit, been going
in there for 8 years. The lady Vicki is just a sweetheart
has a smile to die for and is just a nice person, working hard and not
making much money she also takes care of a disabled son at home. Vicki's
car is a 1985 no
heat always breaking down on her and I know she just
can't afford to go buy a car, she doesn't even have health insurance
she's older than me and I'm almost
50. She's just one of those people you wish you could help and I wish I
could but I can't since I found out last year I have lung cancer well!
I thank
God every day I touch my feet to the floor I just wish by giving
Vicki's name something nice could happen to someone I know that really needs
help!
, and I wish an angel
could just touch her life like she has touched mine! Just by being a
nice and good person!

Independence,
My name is Heather and I work for the Child Abuse Prevention
Association in the Healthy Family Connections program. Over the past two
years
I have been working with Kelli and her family in this program. Kelli
has experienced a lot in her 28 years of life. She has two beautiful
children Bobby who is four and Andrew who is 20 months. She is a single
mother who is not receiving child support, has been living with her
mother for the last four years and has been without a car for the last
three years. Kelli has been working on getting a job, finding daycare for
her children and getting transportation for her family during the time
I have been working with her. Certain obstacles, such as the expense
of buying a car have kept her from her goals. Transportation is very
important to Kelli because when she was 17 years old she was in a car
accident that required her to get her hip replaced and has left her with
an injured knee for life. Because of this accident it is difficult
for Kelli to walk the places she needs to go. She has a great
support system with friends and family but it is difficult, for Kelli, to
rely on friends and family to get her and her children back and forth from
the doctor or get her children enrolled in a daycare facility to help
with education and development. Education is very important to Kelli
and she plans on going back to college once she gets transportation and
employment. Kelli would like to finish her Bachelor’s degree in
Business Technology, move out of her mother’s home and continue to raise her
family. Kelli is a very proud individual and feels like she can be a
burden to family and friends with continuing to ask for help with
transportation. I believe with a form of transportation, Kelli has the
resolve to achieve all she has goals has set forth for herself and her
family.
Thank you,
Heather
