Brandi Klamm is the 20 year old mother of two children.  She and her
children reside in Lawrence. Her 2 year old son, Evan, was born with
optic nerve hypoplasia and is blind.  He receives orientation/mobility and
other special education services, and also has frequent neurology and
opthamology appointments in Kansas City.  Brandi also has a 7 month old
son, Xavier.  Even though Brandi lives in Lawrence, she only trusts
leaving Evan at her mother's home childcare in DeSoto, which also
constitutes alot of driving.  Brandi works long hours, but dreams of someday
being able to attend nursing school.  She has a high school diploma and
some college experience, and is capable of pursuing these goals with the
assistance and guidance of appropriate support systems.  However, due
to recent financial difficulties, Brandi recently had her car
repossessed, which will make it nearly impossible for her to be eligible for any
kind of loan.  A relative is briefly allowing Brandi to borrow her
car, but this is a very temporary situation.  She will not be able to
meet her children's needs (especially Evan's), or maintain and progress
in her capacity to provide for her children without reliable
transportation.
Please consider this young family for your program.
They are trying so hard to move forward, and transportation is such a
major piece of helping this family function as effectively as possible.
Thank you for your time and attention.

Her name is Pamela and she will be by the phone tomorrow morning between 9-10 am

She started crying when I told her she was nominated, .   She came to shelter in August and now lives on her own.

She walks to the bus stop at 4pm and gets off at midnight-taking the bus home.

She is working at a restaurant and going back to college in the Spring to become a nurse.

Her abuser kept her locked in a house with bars and locks on the doors and windows and didn’t allow her to finish college.

Call me on my cell if you have questions.

I have another couple recipients that I am working on for radio that we could do next week.

One in particular I will write her story to read and then we can call her- she is in shelter

and safety is a big issue for her so we will change her name etc.

Thanks!

I would like to nominate a family for a van.

The family was displaced to Kansas City from Seattle as a result of a
medical tragedy.  The family, consisting of two parents and four kids
were on vacation from Seattle to Salina, Kansas visiting family when one
of their children began to complain of numbness in her arms and legs.
After further complaints, her parents took her to the local hospital.
Not recognizing the severity of the medical issue, doctors misdiagnosed
this nine- year old girl with strep throat and sent her home from the
hospital.  She returned to the hospital with her father the following
day with continued physical complaints.   Eventually being seen by a
physician, it was determined that she be transported by life flight from
Salina, Kansas to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.  Her
parents later learned that she suffered from a condition called AVM: Arterial
Venous Malformation.  This condition has a prevalence of one in three
million people.  As a result of her stroke, she suffers from quadrip
legia.  She is bound to a wheelchair and has minimal movement of her
arms and legs.

The family has sold most of what they owned including household
belongings and vehicles to allow them to stay in the Kansas City area and
maintain the level of treatment for their nine- year old daughter.  Some
family members stayed at the Ronald McDonald House for nearly 6 months
until she was released for out patient treatment.  Their oldest son, once
separated from his family as his sister got treatment, is now able to
reunite with his family in the Kansas City area.

Until lately they have been without a vehicle and have been
transporting groceries by bicycle from the grocery store. Recently they have been
able to temporarily borrow a car, though this will end after the
holidays.  The car that they currently have borrowed does not allow enough
room for the family and does not have a chairlift.  If the family goes
anywhere she must ‘drive’ her motorized wheelchair outside while her
family drives along side her.

The family needs a van with a wheelchair lift. Receiving this van will
allow the family freedom to maintain medical appointments on time,
obtaining her necessary medical treatment.  In addition, this donation will
allow the family to travel within their community, in a typical manner
to carry out daily tasks.  Receiving this van would be a generous step
in the family’s physical, emotional and financial recovery.  This van
would allow the family to meet the medical needs essential for her
treatment and recovery. In addition, having accessible transportation would
allow her parents to meet the daily living needs of the family for all
four of their children.

Please consider this family for a van.  They are such deserving
candidates.

My sister died 9/11/05, her husband died 12/30/05 leaving my two nieces
and nephew and great neice in their parents home which was in
backruptcy. They were forced to move in Feb of 06 on my niece Sylvia's income
that she earns in the photo lab at Walmart. After all the heartache
that they had sufferd this year the car she was driving was repossed by
the dealership due to the fact that it was included in her parents
backruptcy. She is a student at Penn Valley College in the Nursing program
and works full time. She has to ask people for rides to and from work,
struggles to keep a roof over her and her two siblings and three year
old daughters head, food on the table etc.....
Just writing this little paragraph has me tearing up. I do not know of
anyone in this city who deserves a car based on tragedy more than her.
If she had a car she would be able to go to and from work which is the
only way that this family will be able to stay out of a homeless
shelter and for her to better her life by obtaining a education in nursing.
Thank you for your consideration. Sylvia's Aunt DD.

About two years ago, Jamie, a client in our Early Head Start program,
lost her mother.  This is difficult for any girl, but especially a high
schooler who is pregnant, wanting to go to Prom with her boyfriend and
ready graduate later that spring.  Losing a mother was difficult for
the whole family; Jamie has three sisters and a younger brother with
special needs.  This left Jamie's father to care for them on his own,
something he had not done before.  All of this stress eventually lead to
depression; depression for Jamie's father and for Jamie herself.
Fortunately, Jamie was able to receive counseling to help her recover; but
nothing will be able to give her daughter the grandmother that Jamie had
hoped she would know.  Despite these obstacles, Jamie has been very
committed to her child.  She reads to her daily, promotes development
through play and cares for her health by getting her to the doctor on time.
She has also tried to maintain a relationship with her daughter's f
ather, but his unresolved anger issues have made this difficult.
Instead, Jamie has been raising her on her own.  Jamie has also been
helping to raise her brother by staying in her father's home and providing as
much support as possible.  However, Jamie's father is out of work and
depressed, making it difficult to live in that environment.  Jamie would
like to have her own place to stay and would like to provide quality
experiences for her daughter but has found this to be difficult without a
job; a job is difficult to get without transportation.  Jamie did find
work at the Oak Park Mall, cleaning tables in the Food Court; something
a lot of people may not be willing to do.  But she is hoping this job
will help her save money to buy a car; with a car she will join the
Electrical Laborers Union to gain a skill and some experience that would
help her obtain a well-paying, consistent job.  Making it even tougher
for Jamie is that she must rely on her father for transportation
 and he asks for $20 every time he drives her to work;

Jamie has a 2 yr old Girl            wears 24month clothes

Michelle is an exceptional person and a wonderful mother. She has been
struggling for the last year. She moved here from Texas to start her
life over from an abusive husband. She had gotten a really good job and
was starting to get on her feet when she was laid off in March.  While
she was searching for another job, her car broke down and was in need of
an engine. It was a very old car so she ended up just scrapping it. She
has three children 16, 15 and 13. It is very hard for her to get her
children to the doctor or any thing else. even the grocery store. Her
thirteen year old daughter has a skin condition and it's hard for her to
get rides to the dermotologist. Her sons dropped out of sports because
they could not get to practices and games.  It's been very hard on the
kids especially. It's hard for her to get a job with no transportation.
She doesn't live on the bus line. She has already told her kids that
they weren't getting anything for christmas this year. I have gone
over to her house and she has her Christmas tree up with no ornaments
and nothing under the tree. Michelle is trying very hard to keep
positive for the kids this Christmas. It would be the best Christmas in the
world for her and her children if they got a car.  Michelle is such a
wonderful and giving person. She has made a difference in my life as a
good friend. She would help anybody in need if she is able to do it. She
always has a smile on her face no matter what kind of bad day she is
having. She really deserves this car and I think the boys would get more
involved in school if they had permanent transportation.
Thank you,   Pam

Hello!
My name is Paige and I am the family support advocate at Head Start
of Shawnee Mission!  I am writing to you because I know a single, caring
mother of two girls who is in desperate need of transportation.  This
family is a perfect candidate for cars 4 Christmas!  Laticia already
works very hard to provide for her family and just needs a little boost!

About 3 months ago, Laticia had been renting the same home for 3 yrs,
working full time and getting to her job with her own car, all while
taking care of her two daughters...when the rug got pulled out from under
her.

Suddenly, Laticia's car broke down, then her house caught on fire,
and the family lost everything they owned.  Laticia's car was not able
to be fixed and in the fire she lost all of her furniture, her
daughters' toys, and clothes.  Through it all, Laticia has been able to move into
a new apartment and maintain a full time job.  She has barely any
furniture and still has no car.  Laticia has been getting rides from friends
and family to work for over 3 months, just so she can pay the bills and
provide food and housing for her girls.

Laticia's attitude has remained positive over these past few months
through it all!  This Christmas, I know a car would further enable
Laticia to continue to work and provide for her two daughters.  Laticia
would be so thankful to get a car for her Christmas wish! Thank you!  I
know you have so many deserving families, but please consider helping
Laticia and her daughters to get back on their feet!
~Paige

MY mother Christine is in need of a vehicle
she was Diagnosed with fourth stage throat cancer in april of 2006.My
husband and I took her in to take care of her the best we could. We
have been having hard time getting her to and from all of her appointments
she had to go to radiation every day monday through friday and had
chemo every 21 days.As of october 2006 she found out she was in remission.
I tried to do my best but I have 4 children and I also have a heart
condition which I have to go to Dr. appointments myself which doesn't
allow me to always be here to transport her. My husband works a full time
job and works over time constantly to just make ends meet, so he is
unable to transport her. I have had to pay family and friends to take her
places when I'm unable.Since my father passed away she has lost
everything from her home to a vehicle that has not ran since late 2004 to
almost losing her LIFE.Now she has a chance to start a new life for herself
and being without any transportation keeps her from furthering her
self to appoitments and living on her own. Thanks for allowing me to
tell my story.
                         Sincerely,
                              Mistie

My sister Jongeletta(Jonie) and her 5 children would benifit a great
deal from a car/van. Jonie has 5 children all of which were priems when
they were born. Jonies youngest child who has celberal pasley, who is
also on a feeding tube, oxygen and has to go to the Doctor's at least
once a week if not more. My sister doesn't have transportation. It's
really hard for us to pick her up because when she has to go somewhere
all the children including ours must go. She is on a limited income and
can not work because her children need her. She has been in a abusive
marriage which lead to her husband been arrested in other words he held
a bucter knife to her throat and tried to kill her so she has not had
any contact with him nor does she ever want to. My sister and her
children are very sweet they will give you the clothes off their back if
they had it. She is really struggling. I hate to feel her pain She crys
tome all the time because she want's more for her children and oft
en askes herself why did I have so many kids. All I can tell her is
God want put more on you then you can bare. If you could please help
her and her children. If no one else needs it she and her children do.
Also, her son is in need of a wheel chair if you know anyone who has
one please let me know her medical card will only pay for some of the
cost. Please help my sister.

My daughter, Fawn, lost her 8 month old daughter, Janis Joelle, when
her boyfriend dropped a pot of scalding water on her and she passed away
from these injuries on May 31 of this year. Since that time it seems
as though bad luck has followed us. Times have been very hard mentally,
emotionally, and financially. My daughter's car's transmission has
blown and we have no way to replace it or get even a used car. I have
been trying to help my daughter financially but I do not have the
resources to help her get the car fixed. I am so worried for my daughter as
not having a car means she is not able to get to work or school, she has
worked so hard to try to get through this time and it just seems like
one thing after another is happening creating more havoc in her life.
Having a car that is in good condition would mean so much to her. Life
has been very trying as she is still trying to understand why she is
being punished and the person who scalded her daughter got off scott
free and now she has no transportation to get her to the places
(school/work) that keeps her mind occupied. Please help her, I have nowhere
else to turn for this kind help.
Fawn is in her early 20's

To Whom It May Concern:

In May of 2006 my cousin, Jerry Lee Mc Guire, called me from the
Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri and wanted to know if I would be
willing to be his companion to go with him to get a heart transplant.
His mother is 78 and in bad health, his sister is also in bad health and
there is no one else to go with him.

On Monday, October 2, 2006 the hospital called me and said they should
have a bed in Salt Lake City, Utah for Jerry one day that week and if I
were still willing to go with him to please come to the hospital and
meet with the doctors.

I went to the hospital and while I was there a bed became available and
within 30 minutes we were being rushed by ambulance to the K C Airport
and loaded onto a LIFEFLIGHT JET and whisked away to Utah. I spent the
next 10 days with him in the MICU of the Veteran Affairs Medical Center
there in Salt Lake City.

The doctors have determined that he is a good candidate for a heart
transplant, but first they need to operate and put a "L-VAC" in his heart
to help relive the pressure on his lungs. then take approx. 3-4 months
to come back from this surgery to be strong enough to go through the
transplant.

The social worker there at the hospital told me they were sending me
home to close up my house and be back there within 7-10 days when they
operate on him. the social worker said it is important that we have good
transportation in order to get him back and forth to the hospital and
doctor appointments.

I am in desperate need of a GOOD vehicle that will get me the 1500
miles back to Utah, stand up under the cold weather in Utah, and get us
back home to Kansas with all of this is over.

PLEASE, with the grace and mercy of our Heavenly Father, help us!!!

My name is Joyce Molina, I am Mr. Mc Guire,s cousin, and the only one
able to help him at this time.
Please help us with a car.
Mr. Mc Guire and I are both disabled and on limited incomes. by the
time we take care of our monthly financial obligations there is no money
left to buy a car.

Between surgeries we will be housed at:
Common Thread Inc. Transplant House

Sincerely,
Joyce Molina
She is on her way to be with cousin Jerry in Utah

to whom this may concern :

may i ask that you please take this application in to deep
consideration.

Miss Carruthers is a hard working employee of mine.
she has a refuse to lose attitude. may I add these are the kind of
people I want and enjoy to help succeed in life.

Miss Carruthers currently has a car that is in such bad shape it would
be a prime candidate for the television series pimp my ride. since she
does not live in southern California that is not possible.
so now I am asking for your help. I just drove this car today. with
that said I deem this car unsafe unfixable and undependable to transport the two
special needs children she is a single parent of. miss Carruthers oldest
child
(age 10) is an asthmatic and must take breathing treatments as well as
steroids. miss Carruthers youngest child (age 2) was born with
omphalcele. in ordinary terms she was born with no interior stomach muscle,
therefore her intestines and liver protruded from the umbilical cord area at
birth. this special needs child is constantly visiting the doctor as
well as the emergency rooms at the hospital just to survive everyday life.
this child will again need several surgeries in an attempt to correct
this unfortunate birth defect.

miss carruthers is totally dedicated to these special needs children
and deserves any help she may acquire.

as i have asked, i am sure you will take this informational letter in
complete consideration.

sincerely and thank you,

FOR BRITTANI SUBMITTED BY HER MOTHER DONNA
Brittani deserves to be nominated for Cars for Christmas for many
reasons. Brittani has helped many people over the years in any way that she
can. She was an integral member of the team that organized the Journey
to a New Road Project, led by Matt O’Conner, to assist the victims of
Hurricane Katrina. Not only did Brittani and her family assist with the
acquisition of supplies, but also with the delivery and distribution of
those supplies to the victims of Katrina. Brittani drove a truck in the
convoy and directly assisted the Hurricane victims. Brittani also has a
history of volunteering for local charities, including the City Union
Mission.
A survivor of the greatest loss, that of a child to SIDS; She has over
come cancer, and survived spousal abuse. Surviving it all to become a
great mother to her 9-year-old son, Braden. After all this time,
Brittani has hit upon some hard times herself. After losing a great paying job
to downsizing, she has lost her vehicle. She has now found a job paying
far less, but it is close enough to home to walk. She’s been forced
to post-pone continuing her education and trying to make a better life
for her and her son, due to an erratic work schedule and a lack of
reliable transportation.
A car would be such a blessing to Brittani! It would certainly help to
ease the stress of the struggle for this amazing single mom.

Car Santa finds homeless family of 7 living in a van with a blown engine in Walmart parking lot

Steve, a former concrete worker, is on disability. His first wife died giving birth to his twins Haley and Kyle. Kyle is autistic and

needs special schooling. The twins stayed in the hospital until they were 1 then Steve cared for them and a son a year older for three years

until he met Deenaa who is now the mother to hischildren. Between the two they have 5 children all under the age of 7.

They'd planned on getting married, but Steve had a heart attack and underwent open heart surgery. They were evicted from their unsafe mobile home

in Oklahoma after their landlord refused to repair the electrical damage. They put what they needed in their van

in hopes of finding a new life. They made it to Kansas City when the engine in their car blew up. With a homeless sign in their car window a

Kansas City Chief player  Overland Park gave the family enough money to get a motel room and local law enforcement told them to call

Cars 4 Christmas for help with a vehicle. the Car Santa met the family and  gave them a mini van with enough room for all the family. They need more than a car so he

took them to Max and Tanna on 99.7 KYYS to tell their story. The community has helped them find a home , got them furniture, clothes

(from Lee Jeans), toys for the kids and with donated rings, wedding cake, wedding dress and got them married Fri morning at the KYYS studio.

My cousin Randy's wife Smokey 24 years old mother of two
children Sammy Jo age 9 and Skyla age 1 was killed in a car crash this
October.  Randy is now trying to provide for his two girls and work a
full time job.  Randy is in desperate need of a reliable vehicle not
only to try to get to work but to take his youngest daughter Skyla for her
many visits that she must go to at Children's Mercy Hospital as she has
tumors on the brain and is not expected to live to her 2nd birthday.
Randy is working in factory in Lenexa Kansas. This is a very hard
Christmas for this family.  Smokey was a stay at mother so that Skyla could
have a nurse come in and do therapy with her.  Smokey was killed in the
only vehicle that the couple owned with only liability insurance so
there is no money to buy another vehicle.  Randy must now depend on the
transportation to work and to get Skyla's needs taken care on others.  While
our family would love nothing other than to be able purchase one
for them ourselves, we are all working family's that just can't afford
to do it ourselves.  Thanks for taking the time to consider Randy and
his girls for this gift that is must needed. Sincerely, Tina
,Beverly  and Carol  - Randy's cousins.P.S. The telephone number we

She left an extremely abusive situation and moved in to hope house over
a year ago.  She had nothing and had no idea how she was going to make
it.  She saved tip money to buy an old beater truck with.  It died
recently and she is borrowing an old beater car to get back and forth to
work.  She has two small kids and is trying her best to stay employed to
be able to provide for them.  She has overcome some really amazing odds
and a car would really mean job and family security for her.

My father has been fighting a terminal illness. He has a very rare lung
disease. He has to take Chemo treatments just to keep him going. He has
just filed for disability and won't receive it until Feb. 06. He still
works, but it takes a lot out of him. My Parents are really in a
financial bind. My mother is also on disability and does not drive. She depends
on my dad to get her to places she needs. They are about to foreclose on
their home that we all grew up in, not to say their truck was just
repo'd. My dad hates to depend on his kids to help him. He needs a way to
get to work and especially his Chemo treatments every other Friday. My
dad loves to drive a ford truck, but will drive any truck. I am in the
process of looking for a place for them to live, but can't afford a
truck for them. Can you please help my Father out? It would be a Very Merry
Christmas if we didn't have to worry about my dad getting to his Chemo
Treatments. Thank You for your time, a concerned daughter. Teresa

I am a single mother with two children.  One of whom was born 16 wks
early.  I work a full-time 40 hr job Monday thru Friday and am also going
to school at Penn Valley to better myself, so that I can afford to do
the things for my children that I think that they deserve.  I have not
had a car in over a year and rely on my mother to get me back and forth
where I need to go.  I have to get my 1 year old daughter to daycare
and also try to get back and forth to the Children's Mercy Hospital to see
my son who is in the intensive care nursery.  I only get to visit my
son once maybe twice a week because I have to work around my mother's
schedule.  I would love to be able to visit everyday and also spend more
time there but it's just impossible without my own transportation.  I am
desperately in need and would appreciate the help of cars for Christmas
and their donors.  Can you help me?   Vonetta

Sugar Creek,

Christy needs a car so she can support herself and her youngest daughter Jillian with out having to relay on anyone else. As I sit down to write this, there is ice and snowing falling outside and I can't help but remember the ice storm of three years ago. At that time Christy had moved in with her mother and step-father in Blue Springs to get herself and her kids away from a bad marriage and situation. In most cases that would have been fine and life would have gone on its normal route but that was before the fire. You see, the fire three years ago in Blue Spring were the two young children died was my family. My sister and her husband lost everything and Christy lost Tony and Ariel, the two oldest of her three children. In the time since the fire, Christy has managed to do ok but she has had a hard time holding on to a job because she does not have reliable transportation. Every time she gets a good job, something goes would go wrong with the car and she didnt have the money to get the problem fixed, so there is no way for her to get Jillian to school and herself to work. If there is no way to get to work there is no money to be made. The engine finally went on that car and she just lost another job not being able to get there. I believe if she had a good car she would be able to support herself and her daughter which would reduce the amount of pressure she is under to make sure her and Jillian are going to be ok in the long term. She doesn't need anything fancy just something that can get her to and from school and work. Thank you, Aunt Mary

Britney is 18 years old.  When she was 6 years old, her mother,
suffering from severe depression, took a gun and killed her
brother and left her younger brother mentally disabled.  Britney survived

by hiding under a bed.  Britney's mother is in
prison.  Her father, who never married her mother, does not claim any
responsibility for her.  Her Grandmother and Grandfather took Britney
and her brother in and took care of them until her Grandmother passed
away a couple years ago.  Her brother drowned last year in a pond near
their home and her Grandfather is 89 years old and unable to care for her
anymore.  Britney stayed with a classmate's parents under their
guardianship until she graduated from high school and turned 18.  Britney has
no family or support and she ended up in House of Hope's shelter in
Lexington Missouri.  Being from the small town of Odessa, I became aware
of Britney's situation and decided to try to help her.  I found som
eone to give her an apartment in Odessa rent free.  I helped her get
her drivers license and enrolled her in cosmetology school.  Jobs in our
area are limited, but she has interviewed for a cashier position at
Wal-mart which only pays $6.50 per hour and we are keeping our fingers
crossed that she will get the part-time job.  Britney starts school in
Independence on January 3, 2006.  She is in desperate need of a car to get
her back and forth to school.  I am in hopes that with my help and the
help of good people in our community, we will be able to give Britney a
leg-up and a start at a some kind of a future career and happy life.  I
listen to 99.7 everyday and when I heard you were giving away cars
again this year, I wanted to tell you Britney's story in hopes that you
might be able to help out a young girl who has no family and no financial
support.  Thank you for taking the time to hear my story.

Hi, my name is Amy .  My fiancé, Michael and I have a need
for a car.  Back at the beginning of October the clutch in Michael's
car went out.  after having the car towed and checked the estimate to fix
it is double what the car is worth.  At the time i was driving a 1986
Saab with many miles on it...240,000!  I love this car and it has been
servicing me and my children very well.  So I let Michael drive my car
while the very generous women I work with carted me to and from work every
day.  about one week after the Passat died so did the Saab.  Michael
called me at work and we were both in tears as we are in a tight
situation financially and buying a car was not even fathomable with our budget.
We have no idea what else to do and no more money to spare fixing anything.

Together Michael and I have 3 children with one due in march.  we both
work very hard and have been doing what is necessary to get to work and
to get the children where they need to go.  Michael right now rides his
bike about 2 hours daily to get between his clients.  He has been such
a wonderful man trying everything he knows to fix the Saab I love so
much.  riding his bike so much makes me nervous as I worry about him at
night and in the cold weather.  there are days when it rains so much he
has to cancel appointments which further put a strain on our finances.

we have tried to rearrange our budget to afford car payment but we
have been laughed at and lied to at every corner and auto dealership in
the city.  we are working very hard to straighten out our finances and
our credit but with all the car trouble it is hard to stay on track.

I know there are lots of people who may need help with similar
situations, but this is that last thing I can think of to try.  Anything you
can do would be very helpful and if this is God's will for our family so
be it, and if not another deserving family will be blessed.  With
every closed door there is another opening.

thank you for considering my request.  Happy holidays,
Amy

Sarah is a single mom of a seven month old boy.  Sarah is in her senior
year of college.  Sarah has persevered through many hardships and
financial set-backs to continue her college education.  Her determination to
complete her education is amazing.  In fact, in order to complete her
spring '05 semester, Sarah had to return to school several days after
having a c-section in order to take her final exams.  Earlier this week
Sarah was involved in a minor car accident which has rendered her car
undriveable.  Without a car, she has no way to get to her classes.  I know
that Sarah would be very grateful for any help she might receive from
your organization.  Please consider her as she is certainly a person who
would truly appreciate your kindness and, we know, will accomplish
great things in the future.

My mother Beth  absolutely needs a vehicle.  I am her son
Brian and I am an Iraqi Freedom war veteran. I was sent home a year
and a half ago to her with no help at all from the government for my
severe leg injury I sustained in Iraq. She had to quit her job and put
her whole life on hold to take care of me and nurse me back to health.
My kidneys failed and I was on dialysis for 5 days until they put me
off of it then I was stuck on a hospital bed on my back for 3 months,
then not even being in near the shape to come home from Germany, they
sent me on a commercial flight home and dropped me and my paralyzed leg
off on her to bathe me, feed me, and basically do everything for me like
as a nurse should have done in an Impatient hospital like Walter Reid.
She barely had any money; the only money she had was settlement money
from a wreck. She had a vehicle to take me to the places I needed to go,
but after the money ran out, she had to sell it just to keep food on
the table.
She is in Dire need of a vehicle to not only help get me to the
Doctor and appointments, but also to help her get a job and start getting
her life back together to start worrying about her since I am healing
pretty well.  Please help her, because she is the greatest mother in the
world for helping me.
  Thank you for your time,
   Sincerely,
  Brian

I sit here on my 30th birthday, wondering what to say on how a car
can benefit my life. Where to begin? My name is Kathleen, and I work
as a waitress in Kansas City, MO.
I have three beautiful sons -- Michael, 8, Jeffrey, 4, and Trison,
19 mos.
On April 5th 2004, I gave birth to my youngest son, Trison.
Within a few days, I was in the hospital on life support, and my children
were in DFS custody. I was diagnosed with toxemia due to complications
with pregnancy. I was in a coma for 16 days and in the hospital for
over 30 days. Doctors say I am a modern day miracle.
I had to learn how to walk with a walker and go through speech
therapy. I believe God did for me what I wasn't able to do for myself.
I was released and wasn't able to work due to my physical
handicaps for a few months. I was evicted from my home and started abusing
drugs and alcohol.
I grew up in a very dysfunctional home. Drugs and alcohol were
always a problem in my life. Today I'm an addict in recovery; I will
have a year clean and sober on December 17th due to the grace of God and
my support system.
As I write this, I have to say my life is wonderful. I have found
a new happiness and a new way to live. I have my health and a group of
people in my life that have loved me until I learned to love myself.
I've been in and out of abusive relationships for the past 7
years. Today I'm a survivor of domestic violence. I have broken the cycle.
I've been in a recovery house for women for the last three months.
I'm now going into another transitional living program called Hillcrest
Ministries.
I'm rebuilding my life a day at a time. I'm working with the
courts on reunification with my children. One of the courts requirements
for getting my children back is having reliable transportation.
A car would help me get to the appointments necessary to continue
my recovery with both drugs and alcohol and domestic violence support
groups.
I will also be able to continue working where I
have found great encouragement, support, and love with the women I work
with and a boss, who has given me a chance and an opportunity to slowly
transition back into the work force.
I will be moving from the city to an area where the bus lines
aren't as convenient. I will need dependable transportation to maintain
employment, keep appointments, and care for my children.
It would be a tremendously wonderful opportunity to receive this
gift. I think it's great of you to help the people in need, and I want
to thank you for this chance and either way I know that God will
provide everything I need.
     God Bless and Merry Christmas!

 Thank you, Kathleen

I am a single mother of five. Two of my children's fathers are
deceased. I am trying to be both mother and father to my children because I
want so much for them to have a better life than they have had so far, and
better than I have had.

I moved to Texas from Kansas City, where I was homeless, to try to
start my life over. I found a good job in Texas, bought furniture and
household goods, and felt I had accomplished something good for my family.
Through no fault of my own, I lost my job and could not pay my rent, so
lost my apartment. I had to let my furniture and household goods go
because I had no where to keep them. We were homeless again. The company
where I had worked investigated my termination and offered my job back
to me, but it was too late. We no longer had a home.

A friend who lives in this area sent me money to rent a car to get back
here, where my cousin lives. I stayed temporarily with my cousin, I had
no other place to go. Lee's Summit Housing Authority gave me a voucher
for housing, and we found our present apartment. The only things we
owned were what I could bring in the car. I felt that all I had worked so
hard for and accomplished was gone. I was referred to Lee's Summit
Social Services. I was given furniture, clothing and household goods to
start over, but best of all, I was given hope to be determined to get on
my feet again. I found a job with the Lee's Summit School district doing
cafeteria work. The job is part time and I work in different schools,
wherever my help is needed. I am so grateful to have work, but I have to
beg for rides to and from work if the school is too far away to walk.
There is no public transportation in Lee's Summit. I am struggling to
support five children, so recently found a second job, but again,
my problem is transportation. I feel so good to be able to work, and
pray I won't lose everything again. Please help me if you can. Sincerely,
Keyle

Note from Linda, Lee's Summit Social Services Emergency
Services Coordinator.
 She is a hard worker,
determined to eventually support her family on her own, and sometimes has to
walk long distances to work, due to lack of transportation. Please
consider her for your Cars 4 Christmas. Thank you so much. Linda K. Shapiro
